The wires blue, red/blue and gold are the common.
The blue wire is the common of the left audio
The red/blue is the common of the right audio
The gold wire is the common of the microphone
I did this with my headphone and works perfectly, even the buttons work too.

Yep, works. Did this wiring and works on N8.
To be more specific about wiring:
Green is for left audio
Red is for right audio
White is for microphone
And the rest put them all together and they are the gnd. Even the gold wire that wraps the white one. So, gold+blue+red/blue is GND and goes to pin #4.
